I read this book in junior high called P.S. I love you. I couldn’t tell you anything more about the book, except for its title. But those words stuck with me, even after all this time. Today, those words have so much more meaning. Allow me to let you in on a small piece of my heart. After reading this book, P.S. I love you was all I wanted to see written at the end of a letter, or at the end of a note from the boy I was dating. (This was back when the art of handwritten letters and notes was still a thing, haha.) Those letters, those notes came and went, but P.S. I love you was never to be found at the end of them.
I told no one of my desire to see those words written to me. But I knew in my heart that God would use those 4 words to let me know who He had planned for me. "Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires" Psalm 37:4
Fast forward to sophomore year of high school. The thought of seeing P.S. I love you still in the back of my mind. I meet this boy, however, I did not take “notice” of this young man when I was introduced to him, not even considering that he could be my forever. He never really crossed my mind until senior year, when we were introduced yet again by a mutual friend. This time around sparks flew, notes followed and dating began.
We were enamored with one another. Spending as much time as we could with each other. Then one day he slipped me a note. As I was reading this note right there at the bottom of the page were these 4 words:
P.S. I Love You
You could image my joy, my surprise and the warmth that traveled from the tips of my toes to the top of my head. I believe I smiled from ear to ear and more than likely blushed. Those words I had waited so long to see were finally there, looking right at me. I knew, I knew, that this young man would be my forever.
When you can look back to see where God has worked in your life along the way, it is a beautiful gift. As the Scriptures say, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps” Proverbs 16:9. We might have our life planned out, but God has bigger plans and sees the entire picture.
High school sweethearts. Prom dates. High school graduation. Marriage. Babies. Business. Empty Nest. Grandbaby. Farm.
Our love story is far from over. There is still so much more to come. We are excited to see where God takes us!
"then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind." Philippians 2:2
